What Problems Can Veneers Correct?
As a cosmetic dentist in Beverly Hills, patients will often ask me questions about porcelain veneers. Time and time again, one of the most popular questions continues to be, “What sorts of dental issues can veneers correct?” Because we know that the best patients are informed patients, we thought we would take a moment to give you a brief introduction.
Dental veneers – also known as “porcelain laminates” – are thin, tooth-colored shells that are custom-made and bonded to the fronts of the teeth. As one of today’s most trusted dental restorations, veneers can correct the appearance of several serious cosmetic issues.
- Chipped teeth: There’s nothing more embarrassing than a chipped or broken tooth – especially when it’s one of our “smile teeth.” Since veneers cover the visible surface of a tooth, your friends and coworkers will be none the wiser.
- Gapped teeth: While veneers aren’t an orthodontic solution, they can often correct the appearance of teeth with spaces between them. The result will be a beautiful, seamless smile.
- Permanently discolored teeth: Teeth can become discolored for several reasons – drinking coffee, red wine, smoking or taking certain medications. No matter the cause, know that veneers can help restore a smile to its brighter, whiter days.
The Veneer Procedure
While the results can be dramatic, the procedure is actually quite simple. Applying veneers generally spans two office visits. During your first visit, we discuss your cosmetic goals and take an impression of your teeth. This impression is then sent to a laboratory where your custom veneers are fabricated.
When your veneers come back from the lab, you will come in for a second appointment. At that time, the teeth receiving the veneers are “buffed,” removing only a small amount of your natural tooth. You can then “try on” your veneers to make sure they’re the perfect fit and color. If everything looks good, your veneers will be bonded into place. It’s that simple!
