Is There a Recovery Time Associated with Veneer Installation?
It is a common misconception that all dental procedures are painful, although there may be some recovery involved. This is true in cosmetic dentistry as well - however, the process involved depends upon the procedure. With the application of veneers, the results are drastic but the recovery time itself is minimal.
What To Expect When You Have Veneers Applied
When you have your veneers installed by your cosmetic dentist, there are two steps to the process. During your first visit, your teeth will be prepared for the actual application. This involves shaving down the teeth so that the veneers can effectively bond. It is this part of the process that may require some recovery. When it is performed, the dentist will ensure that you are numbed. Often you will have to come back on a subsequent day to have the veneers put in, and you may receive a prescription pain medication to help you cope in the interim. Other dentists will recommend an over-the-counter pain reliever.
When the veneers are actually installed, the pain you experience will be minimal and you should expect an adjustment period, but not an actual recovery period.
