Frequently Asked Questions About Veneers

As a cosmetic dentist, patients are always coming in with questions about the procedures we offer.  And, there’s one topic that seems to get a lot of attention these days: porcelain veneers.  So, in an attempt to clear a few things up, I thought I would share some of the most frequently asked questions about this cutting-edge treatment.  But first, perhaps the most frequently asked one of them all:  What are veneers?

Porcelain veneers – also known as porcelain laminates – are thin, tooth-colored shells that are custom-made and bonded to the fronts of the teeth.  They are a minimally-invasive procedure and only require a small amount of natural tooth material to be removed.  And, as one of the most versatile treatments around, veneers can correct the appearance of several cosmetic issues.  Now, read on see the FAQs!

Dental Veneer Questions

Here are our top FAQs about Dental Veneers:

  • What can veneers do for me?
Veneers can often correct the appearance of several common dental concerns.  These include permanently discolored teeth, chipped teeth, worn-down teeth, misshapen teeth and teeth that are gapped.
  • Do veneers look natural?
Veneers are one of the most natural-looking restorations around.  Not only do we color-match veneers beautifully, but because they are translucent, veneers can blend in seamlessly with your natural smile.
  • How are veneers different from crowns?
In short, veneers are less invasive than a crown procedure.  Where a crown may warrant aggressive drilling, veneers only require a small portion of natural tooth material to be removed.  Conversely, Dental Crowns are more appropriate in cases where the tooth is more seriously compromised, such as severely decayed.
  • What is the procedure like?
The procedure is simple!  At your first appointment, we take an impression of your teeth, which is used to create your custom veneers.  Then, during your second appointment, your teeth are "buffed," and a small amount of natural tooth is removed.  Once we have confirmed that your veneers are the right color and fit, they are bonded in place.
