Chipped, worn down and discolored teeth are not only unattractive, they can cause a great deal of distress. Thankfully, porcelain veneers can address these and many other dental issues. Veneers—also known as porcelain laminates—are thin, tooth-colored shells that are custom-fit and bonded to the fronts of the teeth. The result is a uniform and more attractive smile. Commonly made of composite (plastic) or porcelain, dental veneers can help improve appearance and boost confidence.
Porcelain veneers can…
Today, we utilize two types of dental veneers:
At your first appointment, Dr. Sands will take an impression of your teeth so he can create custom veneers that address your dental needs and cosmetic goals.
During your second appointment, your teeth are "buffed," and a small amount of natural tooth is removed. This will compensate for the added thickness of the veneers, so your teeth will be the same size they were prior to the procedure. Before bonding, Dr. Sands will confirm that your veneers are the correct shape, size and color. The veneers are then bonded in place with the help of an etching solution and a special light. Typically, porcelain veneers will last for about 10-15 years.
Concerned about how you'll look? Oftentimes, it is possible to "try on" your veneers with a temporary cement to see how they will look. Ask Dr. Sands about this option.
