What Are Your Bad Dental Habits?
We all know the traditional “bad habits” — procrastinating, overspending, leaving the dishes in the sink. But, have you ever considered that you may also be guilty of a few bad dental habits? Shape Magazine online recently published a list of these common “Dos and don’ts for healthy teeth and gums.”
Borrowing from that list, here are a few bad dental habits you should try to break today:
- “Foods that stain.” Our teeth can become stained and discolored for many different reasons: smoking, taking certain medication and very often, eating foods that stain. Some of the biggest culprits are blueberry pie, marinara sauce, coffee, red wine and curry. Thankfully, however, Teeth Whitening can often be an enormous help. During a whitening session, a strong peroxide gel is applied to the teeth. This essentially “lifts” stains from the teeth, achieving a whiter, brighter, more beautiful smile.
- “Using teeth as tools.” Next time you’re thinking about opening that candy bar wrapper with your teeth, stop and remember that your teeth are only meant to chew food. Using them as tools can result in a chipped, broken smile. Now, if you’ve already chipped a tooth or two, don’t panic. There are cosmetic treatments available. One of the most popular is Porcelain Veneers. Veneers are thin, tooth-colored shells that are bonded to the fronts of the teeth. The aim is to restore a uniform, more attractive smile.
- “Avoiding the dentist.” This is perhaps the worst habit of all. When you avoid going to the dentist, small problems can develop into bigger issues. What could that mean for you? Tooth decay, gum disease and pain. So, take a moment to schedule a dental appointment today.
