We all know that things like strawberries and yogurt can be part of a healthy diet, but did you know that certain foods can make your teeth stronger—or even whiter? CBS affiliate, KTVH, is reporting on a few of the foods that can act as “nature’s toothbrush.” Quoting a cosmetic dentist, KTVH reports that “Strawberries have acids in there that actually naturally whiten your teeth and foods like cauliflower also use almost sort of a scrubbing action on your enamel and help remove the plaque on your teeth.” One thing is important to mention, however. Although these acids—particularly malic acid—have whitening benefits, they should not be left on the surface of your teeth for an extended period of time. The same goes for the sugars in strawberries, which can cause tooth decay. It’s for these reasons that you should brush and use a good mouth rinse after eating fruit.
Of course, keeping your teeth strong and healthy is equally important. The article reports that the proteins in yogurt and cheeses can prevent acids from binding to the teeth. “Plus,” KTVH explains, “they’re packed with vitamins and minerals that keep teeth strong.” I guess the old adage is true—you are what you eat!
Interested in whiter teeth? Read on to learn about a few foods to avoid and the ways cosmetic dentistry can help!
Cosmetic Teeth Whitening
The enamel of our teeth can act as a sponge. When we consume foods and drinks like coffee, tea, blueberry pie or curry, our teeth can become stained and discolored—not to mention, unattractive. Of course, not all of us will eliminate these problem foods from our diet, and the simple fact is, teeth can naturally become less-than-brilliant over time. Cosmetic dentistry can help.
At-home remedies like eating strawberries are interesting and can show some benefits, but for those interested in dramatic results, cosmetic dentistry can offer the solution. One of the most powerful methods we use today is Cosmetic Teeth Whitening. During a whitening procedure, a strong gel is applied to the teeth using a custom-fit mouth tray. A special light can be applied to speed up the process and enhance the results. Patients will often return to the office a few times until their desired level of whiteness is achieved. So, take the first step—schedule your whitening consultation today.

We all know that smoking isn’t good for our health, but did you ever consider a connection between tobacco use and the condition of your teeth? The Huffington Post is reporting on new findings from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The article explains that “More than a third of smokers reported having three or more dental problems, ranging from stained teeth to jaw pain, toothaches or infected gums. That was more than twice as much as people who never smoked.” While these findings are surely surprising, the report suggests something even more serious — many smokers aren’t doing anything about it!
While the findings did not offer any information on income or health insurance rates among smokers, The Huffington Post is reporting that “20 percent of the smokers said they had not been to a dentist in at least five years. Only 10 percent of non-smokers and former smokers had stayed away that long, the study found.” While shocking, hopefully this new data will highlight the need for smokers and non-smokers alike to seek out the care of an Experienced Dentist. Of course, besides its effects on oral health, smoking can also contribute to a host of cosmetic issues. Read on to find out what you can do about it!
Smoking and Your Smile
Smoking doesn’t just impact your health; it can also affect the appearance of your smile. One of the biggest culprits is tooth staining and discoloration. When teeth become less-than-brilliant, Cosmetic Teeth Whitening is often the answer. During a teeth bleaching procedure, a strong peroxide gel is applied to the teeth using a custom-fit mouth tray. Sometimes, a special light can be applied to speed up the process and enhance the results. Patients will often return to the office a few times until their desired level of whiteness is achieved.
Another common concern among smokers is bad breath. Bad breath—also known as halitosis—isn’t just indicative of poor oral health, but it can be downright embarrassing. Our Beverly Hills Dental Clinic offers Bad Breath Treatment tailored to your needs. Let us address your most pressing issues!

Though many dentists would have you believe otherwise, not all dental care is the same. This is especially true when it comes to cosmetic dentistry. It’s about finding not only a skilled dentist, but the right dentist for you. So, in an attempt to ensure the best care possible, here are our Top 5 Tips for Choosing a Cosmetic Dentist.
Before Choosing a Cosmetic Dentist, Read These Top 5 Tips:
- Do your homework. Before seeking out a cosmetic dentist—or any medical professional for that matter—it’s important to do a little homework. Be your own advocate! Cosmetic Dentist Websites can be a great starting point for learning more about a practitioner as well as the services they offer.
- Check their credentials. There is no substitution for experienced, certified care. Ensure you’re dealing with a Professional Cosmetic Dentist by verifying their dental education and memberships, such as with the Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry.
- Find out what they offer. One of the best ways to get a sense of a dentist is to learn more about the cosmetic procedures they offer. If you’re looking to enhance your smile, find out if they offer a range of services, such as Porcelain Veneers and Teeth Whitening.
- Research their facility. Where you go is often just as important as who you see. Find out what amenities are offered at their Cosmetic Dental Clinic. If you’re nervous about dental work, see if they offer sedation dentistry. If you’re looking for VIP treatment, make sure they offer amenities for your enjoyment and relaxation—massage, flat-screen TVs, etc.
- Look at their previous work. One of the best ways to find out what a dentist is capable of is by taking a look at their previous work. Before and After Photos can often tell you a lot about the level of care to expect.

Teeth grinding is a common but serious condition. Also known as bruxism, this condition is further characterized by clenching of the jaw and teeth gnashing. One New York Times contributor reflected on his battle with teeth grinding in his sleep. According to the article, “During sleep bruxism, … the upper and lower teeth may come into direct contact as much as 40 minutes per hour, and — for example, on the first molar — with a force of about 250 pounds.” As you could assume, a force of that magnitude can wreak serious havoc on your teeth and jaw.
The exact causes of teeth grinding are not fully known, but it has often been attributed to stress and anxiety. While there are many ways to deal with the base causes of grinding, dentists will generally work to prevent tooth damage with dental appliances and—equally importantly—correct already-damaged teeth. The Times piece reminds us that “Left untreated, [bruxism] can cause damage to the teeth and surrounding tissue, headaches and jaw pain.” What’s the message here? It’s simple. Don’t ignore the issue; don’t live with broken, unsightly teeth. Read on to find out how cosmetic dentistry can protect and restore your smile.
Cosmetic Teeth Grinding Treatments
Teeth grinding and clenching can cause serious damage to your teeth and jaw. As dentists, our role is to prevent further injury and to correct teeth that have already suffered damage. Thankfully, cosmetic treatment can correct a host of dental issues, including chipped and broken teeth.
Cosmetic treatments for teeth grinding:
- Dental crowns: Teeth grinding can cause a tooth to become broken and fractured. Oftentimes, Dental Crowns are required to preserve the integrity of teeth and to restore a tooth’s natural appearance—its size, shape and color. There are several types of dental crowns available, and together we can determine the best course of treatment for you based on your medical needs and cosmetic goals.
- Porcelain veneers: Often, grinding will cause a tooth to become worn-down or chipped. Thankfully, Porcelain Veneers can often correct this. Veneers—also known as porcelain laminates—are thin, custom-made shells that are bonded to the front of the teeth. The result is a beautiful, even smile.
Severe cases of teeth grinding can also contribute to a condition called Temporomandibular Joint Disorder, commonly known as TMJ. This condition is characterized by jaw pain, headaches and problems opening the mouth. Our Beverly Hills Dental Office offers TMJ Treatment and a host of other dental services.

WebMD, a leading source in health news, has recently released a tongue-in-cheek article entitled, “15 Ways to Wreck Your Teeth.” Despite its humorous title, the piece highlights some important things you shouldn’t do if you want to keep your teeth healthy and beautiful. One bad habit the article mentions is using your teeth as tools. “Chomping ice and hard candy, not to mention popping off bottle caps and ripping open potato chip bags, can crack or break your teeth.”
The article goes on to describe another dental no-no many of us are guilty of: drinking too much red wine and coffee. Though many factors can contribute to stained or discolored teeth, coffee and wine are among the top culprits. Remember, stained teeth are not only less beautiful, but their sandpaper-like surface can attract more bacteria, which can ultimately promote tooth decay. “Teeth are tough,” says WebMD, “but they’re no match for neglect, misuse, or abuse.”
Have You Been Neglecting Your Smile?
Cracked or chipped teeth are among the most common concerns patients come to us with. Often, the best solution is Porcelain Veneers. Dental veneers—also known as porcelain laminates—are thin, tooth-colored shells that are custom-fit and bonded to the fronts of the teeth. When the procedure is complete, your teeth will be restored to their natural, beautiful appearance—the right shape, size and color.
Another common concern among patients is tooth discoloration. Teeth Whitening—also known as tooth bleaching—is a proven means of achieving a whiter, brighter smile. Using a strong hydrogen peroxide gel, we can whiten teeth that have become stained as a result of drinking coffee and wine, smoking and even taking certain medications. Remember, a whiter smile is a more beautiful smile.

With Valentine’s Day less than a month away, finding love is certainly on people’s minds. But, did you ever wonder what ranks as the most important physical feature others look for? Believe it or not, it’s your smile! The American Dental Association (ADA) is reporting on a national survey that finds that “smile outranked eyes, hair and the body as the most attractive physical feature.” It should be no surprise, then, that more and more Americans are turning to cosmetic dentistry as a means of enhancing their appearance. Read on to learn more about undergoing a smile makeover of your own.
Achieving Your Dream Smile Through Cosmetic Dentistry
Each patient has unique cosmetic needs and goals. Together, we can find the best course of treatment for you. Here are a handful of cosmetic procedures we offer.
A few cosmetic dental procedures available to you:
- Porcelain veneers: Teeth become chipped, worn down and broken for a myriad of reasons. Thankfully, Porcelain Veneers can often be a solution. Veneers—also known as porcelain laminates—are thin, custom-made shells that are bonded to the front of the teeth. The result is an even, more beautiful smile.
- Invisalign: When traditional braces simply won’t do, many patients turn to Invisalign. The system uses 3-D imaging to create a series of custom-made plastic aligners. Each virtually-invisible aligner works to gradually shift your teeth into place, without the discomfort and inconvenience associated with traditional braces.
- Teeth whitening: When teeth become stained or discolored, whitening dentistry is often the answer. During Teeth Whitening, a hydrogen peroxide gel is applied to the teeth using a custom-fitted mouth tray. Usually, you’ll return to the office for a few sessions until the desired level of whiteness is achieved. It’s no secret that a whiter smile is a more beautiful smile!

British newspaper, The Telegraph, is reporting on a recent study from Yale University, which shows a link between poor oral hygiene and pneumonia. As you may know, pneumonia is a serious lung infection, characterized by symptoms such as cough, fever and shortness of breath. It has been suggested that up to 60,000 pneumonia cases result in death each year in the United States.
While we all know the importance of good oral hygiene, here is just one more reason to take care of that mouth of yours. According to The Telegraph, “Poor oral health has been associated with respiratory diseases … as bacterial chest infections are thought to be caused by breathing in fine droplets from the throat and mouth into the lungs.” So, where should you start when it comes to keeping your mouth healthy? Read on to find out a few suggestions from the ADA.
Tips for Good Oral Hygiene
The American Dental Association—the largest national dental association in the world—is the top source when it comes to oral health information. Here are a few oral health tips, taken from a report by the ADA.
A few tips for good oral health:
- “Brush your teeth twice a day.” Brushing is the cornerstone of good oral hygiene. You should brush at least twice a day and replace your toothbrush often.
- “Clean between teeth daily with floss.” Don’t underestimate the power of flossing. Flossing helps remove plaque and food debris from between teeth. This helps your odds against tooth decay and promotes healthy gums.
- “Eat a balanced diet and limit between-meal snacks.” Good nutrition contributes to good oral health. Avoid foods high in added sugar, such as candy, soda and cookies.
- “Visit your dentist regularly for professional cleanings and oral exams.” This is probably the most important tip when it comes to maintaining oral health. Regular dental exams and preventive care are a must. Give us a call and book your appointment today.

Infants usually only have a few teeth, so how important is seeing a dentist at such a young age? Very important says a recent article from Medical News Today. According to the report, infants who are just 6 to 12 months old should be seen by a dentist, citing The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry’s revised guidelines on infant oral health. However, Infant and Pediatric Dental Care is nothing new to us.
At our practice, dental care for children is important for two reasons:
- Infant dental appointments are important for assessing teeth, gums and general oral health.
- For children who are a bit older, dental visits can educate and prepare young patients for a lifetime of dental hygiene.
A Beautiful Smile at Any Age
Hopefully, by the time we’re adults, regular dental checkups should simply be a way of life. It’s the best method for achieving and maintaining a healthy mouth at any age. However, as we grow older, our smiles often change in ways we don’t want. Teeth can become broken, discolored over time or may even require a dental implant. Thankfully, there’s cosmetic dentistry.
A few of the cosmetic treatments we offer:
- Crowns: When a tooth has broken to the point that a filling won’t be effective, Dental Crowns are often required. A crown is used to hold a cracked tooth together and prevent further damage. Aesthetically, a crown can restore a tooth to its normal size and shape for an overall improved appearance.
- Whitening dentistry: For patients with stained or discolored teeth, we often recommend Tooth Whitening. A hydrogen peroxide gel is applied to the teeth to achieve a brighter, more beautiful smile.
- Implants: When you lose a tooth, often the healthiest option is a Dental Implant. During the procedure, titanium cylinders are surgically implanted into the jaw and provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel and function like natural teeth.
Schedule Your Checkup Today
Whether you’re interested in booking your infant’s first appointment, an appointment for yourself or if you’d simply like to learn more about Cosmetic Dentistry, contact us today. We can help you maintain a beautiful smile at any age. Our offices are located in Beverly Hills, and you can book your appointment at (310) 273-0111. Call today.

As the New Year approaches, we often decide on something we want to improve about ourselves. Whether it’s eating healthier or exercising more frequently, New Year’s resolutions symbolize a positive change—a fresh start. So, how about making a different sort of resolution this year? How about taking another look at some of the cosmetic dental treatments you’ve been considering for a while?
Achieving a More Beautiful Smile
The world of cosmetic dentistry is a dynamic and exciting field. With today’s treatments, we can correct a myriad of cosmetic issues you may be facing.
Here are a few of the cosmetic treatments we offer:
- Porcelain veneers: For those with teeth that are chipped, worn down, broken or discolored, Porcelain Veneers are often the answer. Dental veneers—also known as porcelain laminates—are thin, custom-made shells that are bonded to the front of the teeth. Veneers are advantageous over crowns for a few reasons: they tend to cost less and they don’t usually require the removal of much natural tooth material.
- Tooth whitening: We all want bright, brilliant teeth. Whitening Dentistry is a time-tested means of achieving a whiter, more beautiful smile. Patients with stained or discolored teeth often find this treatment quite beneficial. During tooth whitening, a hydrogen peroxide gel is applied to the teeth using a custom-fitted mouth tray. Usually, you’ll return to the office for a few sessions until the desired level of whiteness is achieved.
- Invisalign: Traditional metal braces are simply not an option for some people. Thankfully, there’s Invisalign. Using 3-D imaging, we create a series of custom-made plastic aligners that are virtually invisible. These aligners will gradually shift your teeth into place, without the embarrassment associated with traditional braces. There are also several advantages of Invisalign over traditional braces. Invisalign aligners are more comfortable, and because they’re removable, you can brush and floss easily and are not limited in what you can eat.

You would never show up for a job interview wearing tennis shoes or a wrinkled suit, but how about a less-than-brilliant smile? According to one survey, having white teeth may be more important than you think.
While we can all appreciate the appearance of white, gleaming teeth, do we really know how important they can be to making a first impression? The Chronicle reports of a survey on the connection between personal appearance and job-interview success. According to the newspaper, “The survey reported that 60 percent of Americans considered having discolored or stained teeth to be more detrimental to a job interview than having a pimple or unmanicured nails or even not wearing a suit.” Now that you know the importance of a brilliant smile, read on to learn about the teeth-whitening solutions we offer.
In-Office Teeth Whitening
Cosmetic teeth whitening is a time-tested and effective means of achieving the brighter, more beautiful smile you’ve always wanted. Teeth can become discolored for a myriad of reasons. Drinking coffee, smoking cigarettes and taking certain medications can all contribute to stained or discolored teeth. Thankfully, there are treatment options available.
During a tooth whitening treatment, a strong hydrogen peroxide gel is applied to the teeth using a custom-fitted mouth tray. Often, an ultraviolet light is also used to speed up the whitening process. You will typically return to the office a few times, and we will work together to get you the best results and optimal level of whiteness for you. With today’s treatments, you don’t have to settle for a stained, discolored smile.
